The month of reading aloud a lot: week 3

We spent the third week of our reading aloud challenge in France by my family. It was a nice time there as my parents and my sister spent a lot of time with the children. The only sad thing about this week was the Notre Dame fire. My mother was born in the street next to the cathedral so it was a shock for her. During this week of holiday, we could work a lot on the reading aloud challenge. My parents still have lots of children books at home.

What worked well

Thanks to the holiday, we could really read much more than usual. It was very fun. I had bought an Eastern box with small German books which my daughter could even read alone. She can read well in German already, even if she sometimes has difficulties with big words. She has more difficulties reading in French, so I read the French books for her.

During the week, my daughter wanted me to read to her a lot of books of the French comic books Tom-Tom et Nana. These cartoons were very popular in France when I was a child. Tom-Tom and Nana are two children whose parents own a restaurant. They both are very imaginative children who provoke catastrophes nearly daily. Their parents are always close to a nervous breakdown, which I find good as a mother because I am fed up with the perfect, never angry parents you often see in children books and cartoons.

Another book that the children loved was Pigs in Hiding. We laughed a lot while looking for the hidden pigs.
