This is now the very last day of my living healthier challenge. The last week of the month of living healthier was not as good as the week before. Indeed, there were two people around me celebrating birthday, my father-in-law and a colleague. In such circumstances, it is difficult to follow all the rules of the challenge and I did not get as many points as the week before.

What I learned this month

First, I learned that it is not as difficult as I thought to have a healthy lifestyle. Avoiding sugar and sweet drinks was not as complicated as I had first thought. Eating more fruits and vegetables was also easy enough because the canteen always offer different salads as well as a warm vegetarian dish. I am not a vegetarian but vegetarian dishes have more fruits and vegetables than the other dishes and are therefore a good choice to make sure I had my quota of vegetables. Being active was not that difficult either because even before starting the challenge, I was already walking a lot.

What was more complicated was to involve my family. The children loved cooking, dancing and doing yoga but were not so fond of trying new, healthy recipes or eating less chocolate. Moreover, my husband and I soon had to recognize that we did not always have the time to look for and try new healthy recipes. It works better for us to cook a simple dinner such as pasta with tomato sauce and still eat the fruits and vegetables as snacks between the meals.

As for my health, I did not control exactly the changes that may have happened but I feel like I have more energy. As for my weight, I did not notice any significant variation. Maybe this means that I was already living in a healthy way before even if I was not aware of it. Or maybe this was just not long enough to cause any change.

Life after the living healthier challenge

As for next month, I do not plan to keep counting the points but I still want to remain aware of what is good for me and my body. Eating enough fruits and vegetables is particularly important. I also want to keep cooking, dancing and doing yoga with the children. Indeed, we had a lot of fun and moreover, these are important skills for young children.
