Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. Therefore, I though that the month of living healthier had to include a list of books that will help you to live healthier. The books in the list will cover several aspects of a healthy lifestyle.

Books that will help you to live healthier
I read this book in German when it became a best-seller in Germany. I can perfectly understand why the book was so successful. The author, the young German doctor Giulia Enders is fascinated by the digestive system and she wrote a funny, easy to understand but still very complete book on this. You will find all kinds of information about your gut: how you can keep your gut healthy, what is the relationship between your gut and your brain, why do you sometimes vomit and what is the best way to poo? The funny illustrations were drowned by the author’s own sister.
David Servan-Schreiber was a professor of psychiatry who discovered that he suffered from brain cancer. After that, he tried to learn as much as possible about the disease. Besides medication, he changed his diet. In this book, he explains how nutrition can play a major role both in the fight against cancer. I read the book years ago but I found it interesting and helpful.
The recipes are based on the Hay diet. Basically, according to this diet, you should not eat carbs and proteins at the same time. This is as if you were eating vegetarian half of the day and paleo the rest of the day. To be honest, I am not totally convinced by the scientific explanations given in the book. However, the recipes of Ursula Summ are very good. I have a German book with recipes from her and I use the book a lot, because of all the healthy and tasty recipes.
To be honest, I have not read this book yet but the book was a best seller. I grew up in France so I will probably know several of the techniques described in the book. However, I have been living in Germany for ten years now and have taken some German habits. So I should actually have a look at this book and go back to the basics.
Mathieu Ricard is a French scientist who went to Tibet to meet the Dalai Lama and become a Buddhist monk. He wrote several books about buddhism, philosophy and science. If you want to start to practice meditation, this is a very good book. I read it years ago and I am still using some of the techniques described in the book.
If you want to do yoga with your children, you really should buy an adapted book. The children can have a look at the book and try the yoga positions they find interesting. This is a great way to start a family yoga practice.
