10 reasons why you should start a blog
1) Improve your writing skills
This is one the main reasons why I started a blog. I have been dreaming of becoming a writer since I was a little girl. However, I have always had problems to write regularly. I won a few times Nanowrimo but once the month was over, I stopped writing. Starting a blog will help you improve your writing skills for the following reasons. First, to be successful with your blog, you have to write regularly. Second, you receive feedback from your readers.
2) Improve your IT skills
Although it is always easier for people without good technical skills to start a blog, you will still be compelled to improve your IT skills as a blogger. As I started a blog, I had to buy my own domain name, find a hosting service, use wordpress, create a Pinterest account… These were new experiences which taught me much. To bring my blog to the next level, I will have to keep learning new things, for instance work on my HTML/CSS skills to make the blog prettier.
3) Earn money
There are several ways to monetize your blog. You can choose to add ads to your blog. You can choose affiliate marketing. You may also produce your own courses or e-books and sell them through your blog. If you check income reports of blogs that are more developed than mine, you can see that some bloggers do earn way more money than they would with a normal job. All say though that earning money with a blog requires a lot of work.
4) Make new friends
Through your blog, you will be able to share your ideas and experiences with people all over the world. People you never heard of before are going to comment on your blog and you are going to comment on blogs of people you never met before. These contacts may evolve to new friendships.
5) Improve your thinking skills
To write good blog posts, you have to work on the structure of the articles. You have to get use to think in a coherent and logical way about all kinds of topics. If you choose to write about controversial topics, many people won’t agree with you and you will have to debate in your comments section. All this will compel you to become a better thinker.
6) Get a new career
If you are interested in changing career, starting a blog can be a wise decision. Indeed, as you write about the subject you are interested in, you establish yourself slowly as an expert in your field. In a way, your blog is a kind of resume. And of course, there are bloggers who manage to make blogging their new career. Especially for mothers, blogging is an interesting career. Indeed, it enables you to work from home and be flexible, which is great when you have small children.

Blogging is also a self-discovery journey. When you write dozens of articles regularly, you get a clear view of which topics you are interested in and what you are good at. You get feedback from your readers too and can see how other people see things differently. All this gives you a better idea of who you are and what you want in life.
8) Share experience
This is particularly true if you have had difficult experiences. You can report about your experiences. As your readers comment your blog posts, they share their personal experiences too. This enables you to receive support from other people who may have had a similar experience, and this is a way to see what other people in similar situations did and to find new ideas.

As you share your learning or self-development objectives, you make yourself accountable. This means that you are more likely to work on your projects because you are afraid you would look ridiculous if you did not reach any of the objectives you described in the blog.
